As I was browsing through the forums on Etsy this morning, I stumbled onto a contest being held on Martha Stewart's website: The American Made Awards. http://americanmade.marthastewart.com/about
The people at Martha Stewart are searching for the next "rising star" of small businesses. The winner receives a trip to NYC to the American Made event, a feature in Martha Stewart and $10,000 to further their business. I nominated myself this morning! It is definitely stiff competition; there are some really talented people out there, but I thought I might as well give it a try. A girl can dream, right?!

Starting Out
Now that I have an established Etsy shop, I'm looking for ways to market my designs better. My Etsy customers are constantly telling me that they are finding my work on Pinterest. This week I had a bride tell me that she had been looking at my Purple Peacock Bouquet for six months on Pinterest and finally tracked me down only to find that the bouquet had been sold already. That is no problem of course because I can recreate it - the original bouquet was actually the first bouquet that I had sold on Etsy. It went to a bride in Portugal! Ever since then, the peacock bouquets have been my most popular. Back to my point, how many other brides have found pictures of my designs online and haven't been able to track me down? It is for that very reason that I am starting up this blog.
